Public Health Engineering: Survey of Connecticut's Shore Bathing Waters.

T HE Connecticut State Department of Health has recently completed a fairly exhaustive survey of the sanitary condition of all of Connecticut's shore waters on Long Island Sound. For many years, and particularly in recent years, the department has received numerous inquiries as to the safety of sections of the shore for bathing. It has been impossible to give intelligent answers to these questions because of (1) the absence of complete data as to sewer outlets along the shore and (2) a dearth of information as to the bacteriological quality of Connecticut shore waters. The survey was undertaken with the object of compiling sufficient information to enable the department to serve better the citizens of the state in their desire for specific information as to the sanitary condition of bathing areas and also to point out to municipal authorities and other interested persons the " danger spots " along,the shore which are seriously affected by sewage pollution.
